2015-10-15 21.31.32Last week I was invited to talk to two groups of primary school children in a Cardiff school. They were studying ‘Happiness’ and were also looking at what possible career options were available to them.

The children were years 1 and 2 so a bundle of wonderful excitement and energy wrapped in the bodies of 5 and 6 year olds! When I arrived, I took the youngest class first and was instantly amazed at how any teacher can possibly keep these balls of energy sat in a circle for more than a minute or two. Whilst every child was incredibly well behaved, they were, quite rightly, buzzing with excitement and as I looked to the left side of the circle to ask them to try and be quiet and sit still, the right side of the circle began wriggling and giggling. It was like trying to spin 30 plates! Whilst I have so much admiration for the teachers who do this day in day out, it did also make me wonder whether conventional school rooms are totally outdated for children this young?

Fighting Fibromyalgia with EFT & Reiki

I have worked with lots of clients who suffer from fibromyalgia. It appears to be a fairly modern ailment and once you become aware of it, it is incredible how many people you notice that have been diagnosed with it. Having witnessed many sufferers, I fully understand how debilitating, depressing and down right diabolical this illness can be. It affects every single aspect of a sufferers life and can leave sufferers feeling isolated and hopeless.

As a believer in ‘every physical dis-ease comes from an emotional imbalance‘, fibromyalgia fascinates me. Essentially (and in very basic terms) your brain receives very real signals that you have pains within your body. However, when that part of the body is examined, there is nothing physically wrong, so essentially the brain is sending an incorrect signal triggering a pain response. Knowing this, I was certain that Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Reiki could really benefit a sufferer and I devised a two step approach, EFT to reprogram the responses being sent to the brain and Reiki  to relax the client to lower stress and anxiety. Using this approach has yielded amazing results, not least with a lovely client, Sam, whom I met under a year ago.

Camera 360When I met Sam, she looked exhausted, emotional and at her wits end. She was just in the process of being diagnosed with fibromyalgia and it was hitting her hard. Within minutes of meeting her, she had used language which demonstrated she had accepted the diagnosis and was in a state of surrender to it. From that moment, I got Sam to agree that she would never take ownership of any disease, that she would be open to the possibility that she could live without it and that she would stop using the term ‘fibro’ or fibromyalgia at all. We agreed there and then that if Sam ever needed to talk about it, she was going to call it ‘the F word’.

It is so important that we have places where we can completely relax and be at peace, places where we can sit, reflect, meditate and allow ourselves to be still. So often we spend much of our lives rushing from home, to our car, to work, to our car, to home and it goes on and on!

Whilst it is ideal if our homes are our sanctuaries, if you live with other people, you may find that the whole house is not a place where you can relax. Maybe you have one of those back bedrooms piled high with ironing, maybe your child’s bedroom should come with hazard tape or maybe you’ve inherited an avocado bathroom suite with clashing orange tiles in your home and are not in a position to replace it yet.

When my business was new, I ran a facebook competition for a free Reiki treatment. Little did I know how the universe would use this opportunity to bring someone very wonderful into my life. The winner of the competition was a lovely lady, however as soon as she entered my treatment room I felt she was very sad and low. I trusted in the flow of Reiki and asked that Lindsay be healed in the highest and for the highest good, I had no idea that Lindsay was not only about to embark upon a total life change, but would also become an inspiration to me too, she has worked so hard to deal with both physical and emotional issues and now regularly helps others whom she identifies as struggling with the day to day issues of life.

Happy New Year all! I sincerely hope that this year is everything you deserve for it to be – because that is how it will work!

So when people hit January they often make resolutions to be fitter, healthier, stop smoking, drink smoothies and as we all know, these resolutions have usually failed by the end of the month (if we were really committed!). As I mentioned last year, I like to set intentions for the New Year instead of resolutions, much less disciplinarian!

One of my main intentions this year is to really step into my light, to own who I am and go out and grab it. Of course this is easier said than done and a lot of it will involve silencing that negative Nora we all have chattering away in our heads, as well as silencing some of the psychic vampires that hang out in our lives too.
